Roller Garage Door - Common Problems

An impaired roller garage door may pose a threat to you and the other people in your house, especially children, and that's why it's important to maintain your garage door in a good condition.

The most common roller garage door problems are: the door won't close or open, or the door falls instead of normally sliding down (the most dangerous problem). If the garage door won't close or open, the problem may be the door opener, which may need to be reprogrammed to start functioning again. When the door falls instead of sliding, the door's extension springs are often to blame. Worn out and damaged springs generally require you to turn to professional repair services due to the dangers of such a repair.

Garage Door Springs - Torsion Springs

Garage door springs are special mechanisms that allow the garage door to open and close. These springs can be divided in two types: torsion and extension springs.

Torsion springs come in a set of two springs that are located above each side of the door. Since twisted torsion springs are meant to lift an extremely heavy door, they have a lot of tension in them, and that's what you need to keep in mind if you are thinking of replacing them. It's definitely better to call for a professional and to spend $50-$70, instead of placing yourself in tremendous danger while replacing torsion garage door springs.
